College & Career Expo Events CoordinatorEmployment Services Specialist

The Employment Services Specialist works with the Employment Services Coordinator, the Director of Adult Workforce Services, the Community Technology Training Centers (CTTC) Director, and the Gateway Program Coordinators to ensure client and program needs are met.  The Employment Services Specialist provides employment assistance and coaching to clients of the CTTC and Gateway programs.  The Employment Services Specialist is also responsible for working with regional employers and service providers to ensure clients are provided with the best possible assistance in finding resources for their needs.  Additionally, the Employment Services Coordinator facilitates basic computer skills and professional development training for both CTTC and Gateway participants.

Responsibilities

Employment Services

  • Markets employment services to recruit existing clients
  • Meets with clients one-on-one to assess and meet needs, including resume development, interviewing skills coaching and online application assistance
  • Assists Employment Services Coordinator with networking among area employers, educators and service providers to  connect clients to employment and/or resources

Classroom Facilitation

  • Facilitates basic computer skills class, including Intro to Document Creation, Intro to PC’s, Internet, and Email and basic file management
  • Facilitates of professional development classes, including resume writing, interviewing skills and workforce preparedness

Case Management

  • Assists with 30-60-90 day follow up of clients receiving employment services, as well as clients enrolled in classes who have not received employment services
  • Fulfills grant deliverables pertaining to client employment, promotion, and continuing education success

Program Assistance

  • Data Entry for CTTC and Gateway program as needed
  • Assists with marketing, outreach and recruitment of Gateway participants

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in a workforce development or case management environment
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization

Director of Gateway Programming

Under supervision of the Deputy Director, the Director of Gateway Programming directly oversees all Gateway staff, ensures smooth execution and long-term sustainability of program services, works with other Skillpoint Alliance leadership to ensure appropriate Skillpoint Alliance organizational execution.

Responsibilities

Management and Oversight of Gateway Programs

  • Work closely with program coordinators to ensure smooth program services at ACC campuses, and other designated locations
  • Direct staff meetings as needed to provide strong communication between sites and among program staff
  • Troubleshoot any existing programmatic, service delivery or client-based problems or concerns along with Site Coordinators
  •  Hire new Gateway staff
  • Conduct performance reviews on all Gateway staff
  • Visit locations on a regular basis
  • Work with designated staff to ensure successful volunteer coordination

Identify Strategies for Long-Term Sustainability

  • Develop new Gateway programming including but not limited to logistical planning, fundraising and curriculum development
  • Recruit, manage and facilitate Gateway Business Advisory Council
  • Work with Deputy Director, Director of Development, and other Skillpoint Alliance staff to identify funding opportunities
  • Write reports to program funders as directed
  • Write grant proposals in conjunction with the Grants Coordinator and Deputy Director to diversify funding sources
  • Develop strategies for revenue generation as opportunities arise

Strengthen and Cultivate New Community-Based Organizations

  • Attend community meetings with organizations sharing same service principles.
  • Attend business association meetings to recruit industry participation
  • Communicate regularly with partners including ACC, and other Community-Based organizations
  • Work with Deputy Direct to develop MOUs with new and existing partners to ensure strong working and sustainable working relationships
  • Identify new partnering opportunities and share with Gateway staff and Skillpoint Alliance management
  • Participate in community meetings concerning:  social services to low-income families, education and workforce development issues regionally, and nationally.
  • Participate in regional and national conferences concerning the above issues as funding permits

Gateway Allied Health Coordinator

Under the supervision and direction of the Gateway Allied Health Director, the Gateway Allied Health Program Coordinator will coordinate and carry out the activities of the Gateway Allied Health program including community outreach, recruiting, client testing and selection, case management, job development and job placement, data management and reporting.

Responsibilities

Program Delivery:

  • Recruit students for the Gateway Allied Health program through community outreach, marketing and referrals
  • Make periodic presentations to clients at the Workforce Solutions Career Center attending Worker Profile meetings conducted by center staff.
  • Interview applicants to the Gateway program, gather applicant documentation, and administer Survey Form Level M of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
  • Answer general inquiries about the program in a timely manner and provide information about other services that may be helpful to clients or potential clients.
  • Meet with applicants selected for class; assist with completion of ACC Student application, provide bus passes and ACC temporary parking permits as required, provide campus maps and directions.
  • Prepare ACC application packets, Course cards and Sponsorship letter for submission to Admissions & Records.
  • Coordinate the activities for the first day of each Gateway session including preparing rosters for ACC instructor, greeting students, distribution of classroom supplies to students, contacting absentees, contacting applicants on stand-by when space available, distribution of bus passes or parking permits and requesting Student ID cards from ACC Admissions and Records office.
  • Periodically meet and counsel with Gateway students as a group at the end of the class day to answer questions, respond to requests and concerns.  Meet with individual students as required.
  • Consult with ACC staff to address and resolve any problems of discipline, absenteeism or tardiness.
  • Prepare and submit ACC withdrawal forms as required for students dropped from program.
  • Schedule, recruit and coordinate employers for job fair typically conducted the third Friday of the five week Gateway class.
  • Maintain database of employers, make employer contacts to develop job leads for graduating Gateway students.
  • Coordinate and carry out activities of the Gateway Allied Health graduation ceremony including program preparation, invitations and notices, certificate preparation, documents for graduate packets, preparation of caps & gowns and assist with food prep and luncheon arrangements as required.
  • Maintain Gateway Allied Health database including periodic design revisions, data backup, data entry, query and report design and generation.
  • Assist with managing the Workforce Solutions Center reception desks as agreed to by Gateway Allied Health Director and the center Site Manager.
  • Assist with general administration of the Gateway Allied Health program including but not exclusive to processing purchase orders, data-entry, placing phone calls.
  • Provide and maintain documentation of all significant client and class interactions, primarily through program database, but also via email and other electronic and paper records and files; both during and as follow-up to each class.
  • Assist in improving service to our primarily Spanish-speaking clients.
  • Maintain and update program materials, literature and flyers.
  • Perform case management activities to ensure that each participant completes appropriate levels of classes, achieves new or advanced employment, and/or seeks further education/training. 
  • Attend scheduled meetings of Skillpoint Alliance staff, and collaborative community partners, as directed by Gateway Allied Health Director.
  • Act as a liaison between Gateway Allied Health Program and the local Workforce Solutions Career Centers, Texas Youth Commission’s Turman House, Salvation Army, Lifeworks Bootstrap program, Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, Goodwill Industries, Travis County CORE Program and other state agencies and community-based organizations in order to recruit new students and to cross refer to those agencies services.
  • Conduct follow-up with Gateway graduates to track employment status and to provide job search assistance when required.

Marketing and Communications Intern- Fall Semester

The fall-semester Marketing and Communications Intern collaborates with the Special Projects and Marketing Coordinators--as well as the Director of the Technology & Education Executive Council (TEEC) as needed--to ensure Youth College and Career (YCC) program delivery, with particular emphasis on Central Texas FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) and other TEEC programs and initiatives.  This includes all aspects of program planning and promotion including social media design, website management, ongoing program outreach, and event coordination and execution. In turn, Skillpoint staff will work to ensure the Intern gains professional experience as a result of the position, allowing the Intern to take initiative on projects, learn about Public Relations, gain exposure to the non-profit sector, and develop his/her writing skills.

Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications

  • Collaborate on development of PR campaigns
  • Manage social media
  • Draft press releases
  • Draft articles for newsletters
  • Edit web copy and update information on organization's website
  • Prepare publicity brochures, handouts and promotional materials
  • Update and maintain media contacts
  • Locate opportunities for branding and increasing name awareness

Event Coordination

  • Support YCC programming and events, especially via promotion
  • Assist with securing and booking venues and vendors
  • Monitor adherence to event timelines and production schedules
  • Maintain event databases: inputting and confirming event registrations, registrant contact information and producing post-event data as needed
  • Assist at events as needed

  • $1,000 honorarium upon completion of fall semester

DMC Intern

Hundreds of 9- to 14-year-olds participated in the Central Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program thanks to the amazing support of parents, schools, mentors from local high tech companies, colleges and universities, and tons of volutneers.  Students engaged in hands-on probelm solving with LEGO Robotics while researching real-world issues and creating their own solutions. "This event was amazing," an FLL student participant said.  "My team had such a wonderful time. The energy and enthusiasm were unbelievable."
