Postsecondary Edcuation Preparedness

Skillpoint Alliance seeks to create, measure and sustain industry and education connections to support academic relevancy and rigor as well as pathways to college and career success. Our partners participate in the following collaborations which aim to equip students with the skills they will need as workers in a digital economy.

College & Career Expo is an annual event designed to increase awareness of college and career options for thousands of high school students from Central Texas schools.  Many local businesses, community colleges, universities and education and training centers participate, offering students a broad overview of career pathways in this region.

The Digital Media for Youth (DMY) program is a comprehensive and systemic program that implements digital media curriculum in Central Texas high schools. The DMC provides students and teachers advanced technology workshops, college and career awareness events, and a regional competition and showcase, the Digital Media eXchange (DMX).

Step Up is a summer program for middle school students geared to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers. Hands-on, problem-based learning encourages students to explore and have fun while mastering challenging concepts.

Velocity Prep is a program designed for high school students to work together as a mock company on a real project for a client company.  Students research a problem, develop a solution and deliver a final presentation and professional report to the client and school officials.

Skillpoint Alliance has worked closely with Ready by 21 to create a Go-to-College Guidebook to assist youth service providers, educators, students and parents.

Hundreds of 9- to 14-year-olds participated in the Central Texas FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program thanks to the amazing support of parents, schools, mentors from local high tech companies, colleges and universities, and tons of volutneers.  Students engaged in hands-on probelm solving with LEGO Robotics while researching real-world issues and creating their own solutions. "This event was amazing," an FLL student participant said.  "My team had such a wonderful time. The energy and enthusiasm were unbelievable."
